About Us

Award-winning, third-generation builder of homes, neighborhoods and dreams since 1934.

Now in Nashville, building custom townhomes for a brilliant future.

From our humble beginnings during The Great Depression, Red Seal Homes has believed in the power of family. Joe Horwitz, our founder, understood that he was making a profound difference in people’s lives and the neighborhoods they would proudly call home. His passion for quality, honesty and excellence is still the foundation of every house we build.

Today, our extended family has grown to include our loyal and dedicated employees, contractors, suppliers and every customer who calls Red Seal home. Beyond the quality of our buildings, we make sure we create a sense of community that includes open spaces, lush landscaping and inviting gathering places where people are drawn together to become neighbors and friends.

It takes hard work and extra attention to every possible detail, but the end result is always worth it. Together, we build a Red Seal Homes community out of bricks, mortar, lumber and a whole lot of love.

Today, that same mission and passion are proudly at home in Nashville to help you create a custom townhome that’s built around your dreams.

Red Seal Homes’ History

Red Seal Development Corp. (also known as Red Seal Homes), a third-generation builder of outstanding homes and neighborhoods was founded in 1934, by Joe Horwitz.

In the housing boom following World War II, Red Seal began to create large new residential communities in Glenview and Arlington Heights, Illinois.  Under Mr. Horwitz’s leadership, the company followed with communities in Deerfield and Northbrook.  Mr. Horwitz served as President of the company until 1977.

David A. Hoffman, the 2nd generation of Red Seal’s leadership and its Chairman Emeritus, joined Red Seal in 1969 and purchased the company in 1977.  Under Mr. Hoffman’s leadership, Red Seal’s activities expanded throughout Northbrook, Highland Park, and into Wisconsin and Florida as well as the City of Chicago encompassing a variety of custom and production residential communities as well as sizable commercial and hotel construction ventures.

In 1991 Brian Hoffman joined the firm and the 3rd generation of the company began its work at Red Seal.  In 1995 the 3rd generation of leadership was solidified with the arrival of Todd Fishbein.  Hoffman and Fishbein’s unique but complimentary skills along with the efforts of long time construction chief Michael Larsen, have propelled the company to its role today as the pre-eminent privately held residential developer in the Chicago and Nashville areas.

The company’s leaders are supported by a veteran staff wholly dedicated to excellence and to providing the highest quality of service to Red Seal’s customers.

Since 1934, Red Seal has established itself as one of Chicago and Nashville’s most acclaimed builders, winning prestigious awards on an annual basis. Red Seal was honored as the 2000 Illinois Family Business of the Year by Loyola University Chicago Business Center. The company has been honored with numerous Crystal Key awards from the Home Builder Association of Greater Chicago in recognition of excellence in housing design including in 2008 for Housing Design at our Deer Park Estates community. Red Seal has been featured in all local publications and in such national publications as Architectural Digest, Professional Builder, Wall Street Journal, Builder Magazine, and The Urban Land Institute’s Publications.
